At just 17 years old, Brett Kiernan arrives with considerable expectations. The American center has already drawn attention from scouts for his maturity, hockey sense, and ability to impact the game in all three zones. The 6 foot 7 inch center will be honing his skills at UMASS Lowell this year.  Canadian blueliner Kaleb Taylor has exhibited size and strength during his time in the SIJHL.  At only 17, Chicago's scouting staff believes more time in the SIJHL will continue to build Taylor's combination of skating ability and defensive awareness giving him a strong foundation as a future NHL-caliber defender.

In the next round, the Blackhawks added another Canadian prospect, right winger Patrik McGregor, an 18-year-old forward from CAF. McGregor brings size and offensive upside to the system, providing Chicago with another young talent who can be developed patiently over the coming seasons. The organization views McGregor as a player capable of growing into a reliable scoring threat if his development continues on its current path.

Chicago rounded out its draft class by selecting left defenseman Ryan Gillies from Ottawa. The 17-year-old American will remain with the Ottawa 67's to continue to work on his defensive skills.  Gillies' selection gives Chicago another young defenseman to add to a growing pipeline on the blue line.
