Senators Briefing

Deadline Update

Article Posted 03-02-2025 01:40

Senators Report: Coming into trade deadline with a record of 45-19-3 the Sens sit 4th in the Atlantic division and 6th in the league overall, a startling stat to anyone not in the Atlantic. A so-so start to the season had some fans worried but a 12-3 January and 8-3 February including a 10 game win streak and a current 6 gamer have seen the Sens rise up the standings, now comfortably in a playoff spot.

Big time performances have carried the Sens there, using their usual 2 way game and overall team play the Sens have seen big seasons from last year trade deadline pickup Yevgeny Mekhnin, who they signed in the offseason to a 4yrx8.99mil contract. Mekhnin is having a career year with 87 points in 67 games currently 4th leaguewide and waiver pickup goalie Naythan Caron whose numbers since joining the Sens are amazing. In the last two years (94 games) with the Sens, Caron is 63-21-7 with roughly a 2.5gaa, 918 sv% and a 24 gsaa. Its safe to say the net is his to lose at this point with anointed heir apparent Joel Lindholm taking a backseat while the Sens chase the Cup.

Newcomer Jesse Forsyth is struggling somewhat to begin his Sens career but signed for another season at 1.3mil the hope is the versatile forward can find some chemistry with young setup artist Oscar Huotari and veteran Peter Lindkvist to form a consistent 3rd line.

With only 400k in cap space and almost all contracts guaranteed for next season, management seems locked in with this group and look to be very quiet at this seasons trade deadline. They have to hope this play keeps up and the team can do better than the last two seasons of first round playoff exits.

Big week for the Senators

Article Posted 08-09-2024 14:16

Great week by the Senators going 4-0 to make it a 5 game winning streak. The highlight for sure was back-to-back 7 goal wins at home against Washington and Prince George. The new look lines seemed to work well together and Ryan McCarthy has been a stalwart since the terrible ACL tear to regular partner Chris Mack with Big Elias Setala seeming to settle in nicely to takeover.
Rookie Daniel Hed was called up fill in and has performed admirably but word around the league is that new GM Davey is looking around the league for a RD to fill in but sitting basically at the cap he'll have work to do if he wants to make a significant splash.
Other news around the team, negotiations with upcoming star FA's RW Roch Boivin and LW and leading scorer Brandon O'Rourke have started with sources saying Boivin and the Senators are much closer than O'Rourke and the Senators but time will tell.
